The One Thing Principle

Create Connection

Have you heard of “The One Thing” book by Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan?

The main premise is that we need to focus on one thing to have maximum impact, in our lives and business.

I was so confused by this because I thought “I can’t do just one thing all day. I have too much happening in my life.”

Then I listened to a webinar by Jay Papasan and Nikki Miller from The One Thing community.

They explained it is about doing one thing, at a time, as we move from role to role in our life.

So as you go through your day, fulfilling your various roles, say from spouse to parent to coworker to friend to partner to sibling; you focus on the most important activity in that moment.

With Chiron, the wounded healer, turning retrograde on July 26, 2024, this is a great week to put this principle into practice. Too often, we multi-task or task switch to maximize productivity.

I find it makes me less productive and sets me up for burnout. The multi-tasking or task-switching takes me out of the moment. I find myself not being fully present with the people in my life.

Chiron’s retrograde in Aries from July 26 through December 29, 2024, is an opportunity to recommit to ourselves, our relationships, and our partnerships. I see it also as an invitation to reevaluate our personal and professional commitments.

Papasan and Miller suggest you decide your “One Thing” to focus on by asking yourself, what is the one thing that is the priority for that moment as you're fulfilling that particular role?

As a parent, what is the most important thing you need to do in the moment for you and your child? When you’re at work in your business, for a three-hour block, what is the most important task or priority to complete?

As you look at your schedule and set up blocks of time for your business and life, ask those questions, plan your schedule accordingly, and follow through.

Let me know how it goes.

Easefully yours,

Darice
